Back in school again.
Tomorrow everyone is going back to school, which means I’m going to be working on school whenever I see no way to avoid doing so. I’ve never liked going to school and this year isn’t going to be any different since I’ll be getting up way too early and I’ll be in school most of the week wasting precious hours of my life I could be spending elsewhere. This year is going to be like a little test drive for me as I’ve been wanting to get into the French Foreign Legion for quite some time and next year I’ll be 18, which means I’ll get to drop out of school and get into the legion without anyone able to stop me. For now though, I’m forced to stay in school. If, however, this year turns out to be OK I’ll stick around for another three years. I highly doubt it but it’s a possibility.
I haven’t gotten around to getting BioShock yet but I will very soon and I’ll have a review up in no-time. I’m considering Medal Of Honor: Airborne but since all the previous MoH games turned out to be total shit (except for Allied Assault) I’m still sitting on the fence. I’ll install the demo somewhere today or tomorrow but I wouldn’t hold my breath. Stranglehold has been delayed for PC and X360 and I believe it was going to be released somewhere late September. Great. Next up is Half-Life 2: Episode Two along with the Orange Box that’ll be released on the 9th of October. I’m really looking forward to that as I’m quite the Half-Life fan. I’ll probably download the Black Box or whatever they’ll call it on Steam because I don’t feel like paying for HL2 and HL2: Ep1 again nor do I want them again. Valve already said they’d have a package similar to the original Black Box available on Steam so I guess this’ll be my first big Steam purchase with many to follow. Retail box? Meh, who needs it. The Orange Box cover looks like shit anyway.
I’ll try to blog more often as the news summaries get delayed over and over again. I think I’ll just start including small news items in blog posts soon.
I dont wanna sound like a naggin bitch, but if you truly need to fuck up your entire life, then consider joining u.s.army(i assume that you are from the U.S.A) rather than the french legion. If you join the french legion, for what i know, you will loose your citizent-ship in your home country and the only way to leave the F.L. is to be in a body-bag or permanently crippled. Also by joining the legion, you loose most of your human rights and will probably end up being someones bitch for the first few years of your service. If you wanna join some sort of armed forces, the you should REALLY consider joining rather the USarmy or your local police, or something that is located in your home country. Think about it, by joining the police you still have to beat-up people (sometimes) and do something good for the community.
By joining the army, or even worse the legion, you end up just as cannon fodder.
well that is my opinion, do as you want. But think really hard about it. joining the army/legion is a life-long commitment.
sorry for my bad english, it is not my native language.
Peter, I think he’s pretty resolved
But he does have a point, In some ways it would be much better for you to join the army in youre own country.
And congrats to beeing back to school man , been two fucking weeks for me now and im allredy worn out.
Funny I almost got the same plan as you when I’m finished at school, though mine is less.. drastic =)
Planned to tryout for the marines a little while after I’ve joined the army..
For somereason I really have an urge to get away from home, plusI think almost all sivilian jobs I can think of seems so goddamn boring..
I’m not from the US. THANK GOD! No offense but I prefer live here in The Netherlands. Anyway, most of what you said WAS true somewhere in the last 200 years of the legion’s existence but nowadays the legion is just a normal part of the French army. So why go to the legion? Well, they may be regulated by France as well as bound by the EU’s laws and human rights, but they’re also a bunch of disposable foreigners. So that means that wherever they’re needed but no one else wants to go, they will go there.
I initially wanted to join the Dutch army but I figured that my chances of ever seeing combat were slim so I went looking for a place that was on the semi-right side of the law and would get me onto the battlefield pronto. That may sound completely insane to some but for me it’s the only thing I want to do in this life. Fighting. That’s what I want to be doing, at least the first few years of my life. Maybe one day, if I make it out in one piece (which there is a pretty good chance of) I might pick up game development and get a job behind a desk or some boring crap like that. But by that time I’ll be around my late 30’s so that’s all in the distant future.
Some people just don’t want to accept the boring reality of today’s society, so they go outside of the system to look for adventure. Some just “walk the earth”, wandering through the wild, hoping from place to place looking for an answer. Then there are some who fight, because there is nothing exciting to do in this world any more. You could fight pretty much anything, I don’t really care so I’m joining the French Foreign Legion. Others will want to fight the war on terrorism, there’s plenty of places to do that. Hell, you could even fight the war on drugs for all I care. There’s plenty of shit to fight for.
So instead of doing what everyone else is doing and regretting it for the rest of my miserable life, I’ve decided to shorten my life expectancy but get the adventure of a lifetime in return. I’d rather have an AMAZING 25 years of living, than a dull and boring 80 years of misery and boredom.
P.S: Your English is excellent. There’s room for improvement but it’s good enough.
Well, you have your own opinion, and yes, I think it is insane (truly no offense). Fighting might sound fine/cool/nice, but once you are out there, it isn’t so much fun as it first looked like. But that is not the only thing. If I even assume, that you would really be so blood thirsty, that fighting(equals killing if you are in the army) is what you want to do, I still can’t think of no plausible reason why you should sacrifice your own freedom (of will). By joining the army/legion, you will be demoted down to a puppet/dog. You will have to do whatever your superior says.
In other words:
You can join the army/legion at any time of your life, but you can’t just quit it. Yes, you could desert, but that makes just more problems, even if it is possible (you sure know, that desertion is the biggest problem of the f.legion-mostly because the legion is not what the (now) deserting were expecting).
In any case, I would suggest that you do/try out things/jobs/women before joining the legion. You just might not have the chance for any of it after joining.
And: normal life isn’t boring. It is just what you make of it. In the span of my 14 to 19th birthday I tried and often learned: horse riding, extreme skiing, hill cycling, high mountain tourism, mountaineering, canyoning, rafting, historic fencing, gymnastics, learned some professional stunts, drank hectolitres of various alcoholic beverages and even tried pot - which is in my country still illegal. After that I calmed down and now I have nice long-term relationship with a beautiful chick. So I wouldn’t say life is dull (if you don’t fight). There are still many thing to try.
I’m actually realy surprised that you are from Netherlands and still say that life is dull. With the social and economic safeties your country offers you, you can have a pretty good life by having just a mediocre job. But that is another topic.
Long story short: If you are positive on joining the legion you can join it at any moment. So you should at least try other jobs, like joining the police or i-don’t-know-what, before recruiting in. If you really want to live a full life, avoid the army. Everyone I know only regrets being in the army.
wow this is a long post. I actually never post.
All I have written is just my opinion, you can agree or disagree with it, but I hope you will give it some thought in either way.
and thanks, I try always to improve my english.
have a nice day
Wow I totally missed your comment Monkey. I guess I was still typing when you posted your comment. And it’s cool that we both think more or less a-like. Sure the legion may seem drastic but to each his own, right?
Yeah I guess I want to get the hell away from my home as well. Now we have our own little “I wanna join the army and leave home” club, I feel so much cooler already! I kid, I kid.
And I totally agree with everything you’ve said Peter! I honestly do. But you and I are obviously completely different people so all I can do is look at your arguments from YOUR point of view. Because to me all of those things are nice and fun and all but they’re just not what I want to do. I’ve been wanting to join the army ever since I was 7 years old. But I’ve never wanted to just join the army and train train train and train ’till I drop. I want to train and actually USE my training in combat. Yes I suppose it’s the same as killing but there’s a big difference between killing and murdering. Killing is legal most of the time while murder is just Jack The Ripper kinda stuff. I could never MURDER anyone, but killing the enemy? Hells yes. It may seem sick in today’s world but that wasn’t always so. Sure we’re more sophisticated and blah blah blah but come on, war is human. Humans have always waged war and they’ve been killing each other ever since the dawn of mankind. It’s just how the world works and if I can play a part in that I’ll be more than happy to.
I can honestly see how a “normal” life would be just as fun but I just can’t see it for myself right now. Maybe some day, but not yet. Not by a long shot. Also, I don’t drink or smoke and that includes pot. Call me a saint, LOL.
I currently work as a stock boy in a supermarket, so I’ve already had my ‘taste’ of a normal job. And it sucks. If I had to do jobs like those for the rest of my life I would have killed myself a long time ago. And before you say it: An office job? No sir. No way in hell. NEVER!! I will never sit down for 8 hours, sitting behind a computer with my fax machine next to me and my phone constantly ringing. Hell no. Do you have any idea how high the suicide rates are at those kind of jobs? Haha! Basically all people do nowadays is sit behind a computer. That’s what a “normal” life looks like nowadays and I’ll tell you right now; that ain’t ever gonna happen to me.
Oh and before I close this post, I’d just like to say that I love fighting. I’ve been fighting ever since I was a little kid. Sure, I was raised in a fucked up neighborhood and I guess that has a lot to do with it. I’ve been practicing kick boxing for little over a year now and it’s going great. Maybe if you’ve never really been into a serious fight you might not understand what I’m trying to say, but let me tell you: Once you’re in a fight you’ve got adrenaline pumping through your heart so damn hard it’s waaay better than anything in the world. (Except maybe hard drugs, but that’s medically speaking of course. Don’t do drugs kids!)
P.S: Also, maybe you’d like to use a less demeaning name for your girlfriend. “Chick” is kinda the same as “piece of meat” but that may just be my interpretation. Hey if you want to discuss this more in-depth I’d be more than happy to talk to you over Skype or Google Talk. Or MSN but I’m never on MSN any more so…
Well, we are really different, but not in the adrenaline way, I like it also.
Thanks for the chick advice, I actually never meant for it to be demeaning. It should have been more in the meaning of ‘lady’. - should have written that.
Anyway, yeah, I would like to discus it further if you want to(if not I totally understand), but I’m not sure if my spoken english is as good as my written. I don’t use msn, but i have skype and google. So send me a mail, if you want to discus further. You should have my mail.
Well have a nice day.
Yup! I’ll see you on GTalk!
Absolutely great article, a wonderful addition to the web. I really
aprreciated people taking the time to write good quality work. The
internet is an amazing place. Also pretty amazing to make money. I

I have been utilising a Voip earpiece CIT400 made by linksys for more than ten months. The phone is remarkable and has an amazing voice character for the calls. As long as I know the linksys CIT400 was discontinued and at present been dealt as Netgear SPH200D. If this phone has the identical features as the cit400 without question is a great phone for skype users.
